Dental Care for Kids & Teens

One of the longest-lasting benefits of a healthy smile during childhood is the foundation for a healthy self-image. A healthy and attractive smile brings higher self-esteem and increased confidence, especially for children and teenagers, and we all remember what it was like making friends at that age. Our dentists strongly believe that kids deserve healthy smiles that they're proud to show off.

We have televisions in all of our treatment rooms to keep our young patients relaxed and entertained throughout their visit. Watching their favorite TV show or cartoon is a great way to ease them into regular dental cleanings. We also have a children's play area, and a treasure chest of prizes for our younger patients!

Your Child's First Dental Visit
Digital X-ray

Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children have their initial visit to the dentist when their first tooth appears or by their first birthday. During this first visit, your attitude is extremely important because it will help shape your child’s perception of not only our office, but dental visits in general. If you are not sure what to do, just let us do all the talking! We use kid-friendly vocabulary that explains everything we do in a fun and non-threatening manner.

Pediatric Sedation Options

We understand that many children feel scared or uneasy about dental visits, and we always treat our younger patients with extra sensitivity and care. We offer sedation options for our youngest patients, including the administration of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help them relax. Additionally, our doctors are trained and certified in oral conscious sedation for children so they can get the dental care they need. This is especially helpful for children with intense fears of the dentist or special needs. Ask us about which option is right for your child.

Preventive Dentistry for Kids
Prevention

Prevention is a fundamental part of childhood dental care because it enables us to diagnose and treat problems early. We want to resolve issues before they get more serious and minimize the time and money you spend on dental care.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants work by filling in grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth where food particles get caught and cause cavities. The application is fast and comfortable, and sealants can effectively protect your child’s teeth for many years.

Custom Athletic Mouth-guards

Our doctors at Canyon Oaks Dentistry can create a custom-fitted soft plastic mouth-guard to protect your child's teeth, gums, lips, and cheeks from sports-related childhood injuries. Athletic mouth guards can even help prevent severe injuries to the face, jaw, and head.
